The literary writings of authors originating from the geographical space between the Dniester and the Prut, which is Romanian in essence, but was administered by different regimes throughout history, are conventionally united under the name of Bessarabian literature. This includes works written both in the regional variant of the Romanian language, also known as Wallachian or Moldavian, and in the languages of local ethnic minorities (Russian, Ukrainian, Yiddish, Gagauz). The present article aims to study from a historical, quantitative and motivational perspective the translations of works from Bessarabian literature carried out by foreign translators throughout all 5 stages of the cultural evolution of this territory. Along with indicating the main authors and titles of their works that deserved attention from foreign translators, we want to highlight in our research the main factors that motivated and stimulated international interest in Bessarabian literature. The translations carried out at the initiative of foreign intellectuals reflect the value and relevance of this literature in synchronic and diachronic terms.
